Churchgoers Turn to Ideal to Beat the Winter Blues
An Ideal Harrier GTE 6 section 180kw Pressure Jet Boiler has been installed at the historical St Deiniol’s Church in Hawarden, Flintshire.
St Deiniol’s has a long and vibrant history. William Ewart Gladstone, four times Prime Minister of Great Britain, regularly worshipped there and a church has stood on the site since the sixth century.
The church’s 30-year-old boiler failed during the autumn of 2007 and to keep costs down the St Deiniol’s Church buildings committee project managed the work themselves, although the installation itself was undertaken by local pipefitting contractors Moretube Engineering and electrical contractors SPT Electrical.
Ideal also provided full guidance and technical support at key stages of the project and the assembly and commissioning of the boiler, burner unit and safety systems was undertaken by specialist contractors approved by Ideal.
One of the challenges the buildings committee faced was finding a system that would fit in the small boiler room which is located beneath the church and could be installed in the grade 1 listed building without any major changes to the existing heating pipe work system.
The Harrier GTE boiler was the perfect choice because it is highly efficient, has a 3 pass heat exchanger, produces minimal emissions, is easy to install and service, operates on a range of temperatures and is one of the smallest boilers in its class.
Gareth Jones, who is a process technology projects manager employed by the steel manufacturer Corus, is chairman of the church buildings committee, and oversaw the project.
He said: It’s a very modern and efficient boiler; it wouldn’t be an Ideal boiler if it wasn’t. I was particularly pleased with Ideal’s excellent website, which was full of technical information which allowed us to plan the job. They also have a great help desk. The volunteers who make up the buildings committee had taken on a lot of responsibility but we had a lot of reassurance and support from Ideal. The church now has a warm and comfortable atmosphere. It has been set up to provide the optimum performance so we get a lot of benefits from it.
